Ticking Off - Freakshakes & Macaron Workshops @ Thursday, November 30, 2017

Tuesday 17th Oct

Lunch at Ashy's (review coming up next) before a trip to the city! Safeway had a cookies and cakes sale, so we got some macarons and that bannoffee tart/pie I've been meaning to try. Mother ate the pie saying she's saving me from getting fatter... ffs. And people want to know why I don't want to live here.

Dinner at Three One 2 One, arriving at 7.45pm they were closing in 15mins?!! Turns out they only had 7 buns left and declared sold out. Why are there no salads on the menu?? So I pick a toastie. All the details coming up soon, this is the usual weekly pre-cap. We're here for that freakshake!

Our first mega freakshake! Team effort required to finish it. There's a Belgian waffle, donut and choc wafer in there among many scoops of ice cream and an ice cream cookie! This is the most food pornographic thing I've ever had XD

Wednesday

Lights, mirrors, angles and lighting design all contributed to an amazing dance show this afternoon at 'Tree of Codes' at the State Theatre!

Lunching by the fountains. Sashimi from Sushi Monger. It's less in quantity compared to DonDon, but more variety and comes with mushrooms, egg and kewpie mayo. They're only open for weekday lunches and definitively worth a try or three!

Got some stuff done before tramming to dance, dinner on the way.

B7 Terriyaki Tofu - The predominant flavour is salty. Unremarkable.

Thursday

Of course we're running late. Vampire diaries till 4am turned out to be a bad idea... not that keen on 9am events with limited parking anyway...

Lunch at Viet Star. Meetings then off to the City.

Tonight's Show - 7 Pleasures

Friday

Work and dinner. That chicken salad at fonda is still the bomb! At $16 it's not a cheap eat but so worth it. All the textures and flavours it's in my top 5 list. And the chicken isn't an extra cost.

Saturday

Up north for a macaron workshop! It was a great workshop, though time management could use improvement. Last week we did toasties/sandwich press and we've done cupcakes, and an express cookie deco one (still can't believe the recipe she gave us didn't work) and now macarons.

You can find the recipie and video online, but nothing beats doing it irl and having someone correct you and show you along the way. Alas I didn't participate as much as I'd like, as the idea was to do two batches, but due to time that didn't happen, so I didn't get to pipe the cookie part, which is one of my major struggles. But I did take plenty of notes 12pgs of an A6 book, so 3pgs A4. Of the recipie, and tips.

Exploring Kensington they have those long houses but these ones are slightly set back and up some steps. All packed together still. There was a two story on its own, and I had an absolute favourite!

Dinner at Bar Napoli was fairly average.
Expensive but average. Skip. Though service was fast and friendly

Compares to the salad yesterday this really wasn't a good deal but it was what I was craving

Sunday

NY Corned Beef
Corned beef silverside, zucchini pickle, provolone cheese,
mayo, watercress, sliced wholemeal sourdough

Lunch from Earl Canteen, after 5pm all the sandwiches are $5 (normally $10, city standard)! Around 6.30pm there were two options left, one was the NY Corned Beef.

It was quite good, the fillings, a light lunch though healthy option. I can't say if the bread was dry or not, because I ate half last night and was too lazy to ziplock it, causing the bread to dry out...

As a part of my diet (sorta for weight but mostly for staying alive) I need to have a salad or sandwich everyday, so you'll be seeing a lot more of those.

Another Bubble Cup - Share Tea on Main Street @ Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Sunday 15th October

45mins wait, from the time we hop in line to sitting down, drained from lining up.

Bogof-ish. Buy a large and you get a free original pearl milk tea. Don't get to choose the free one. - But this is a term & condition which you don't fiind out till you get there.

Prices are similar to Chatime, my regular. More than the original Bubble Cup though. Share Tea is the latest brand when it comes to milk tea. How's the taste? They're all pretty much the same.

There are tiny tables and seats inside jutting out from the wall. Asian size Lisa laughs, ffs. She explains that Asians are typically tiny hence one size really does fit all.

The lighting is very bright which helps with the photos. Geometric titles cover the walls in 45 degree angles in a muted summer palette save for the orange.

55 mins total. We won't be doing that again.

Toasties Workshop. Four station including dessert, gourmet at home and leftovers.

A Tip on Textures - Soft, Crunch, Chewy

On the Road - Bun Bun Bakery (Springvale) @ Monday, November 27, 2017

Saturday 14th October

Rated as the place for 'banh mi' in Springvale we stopped by one day for lunch. Parking wasn't fun, so I got dropped off while the car circled the block waiting. It's on the main street though not near the station, around the corner of ANZ bank.

Entrees! For lunch? Yes please.

I still recall my first lamington back home, it was green inside. Hence I'm really not a fan of anything that I'm not certain is fresh when it comes to asian bakeries. God knows how long ago that was made.

We had the chicken and mushroom spring rolls 5 for $2, she offered 10 for $4, but 10 was too much just for me. Anything deep fried is great - except spring rolls with carrot and cabbage... but these were good.

Had the lemongrass chicken roll was more like ginger chicken - note I hate ginger. Other than that it was good, though that was the only chicken on offer. It's a pork parade in there. Full of veg (mainly vinaigrette carrot) and $5. On par with Nhu Lan & Baget? Slightly lower as I hate ginger...

Service was indifferent. Cash only naturally.

They were also suspicious that I took photos, is it an asian thing?
It does make me want to be a food safety inspector XD

Fondue @ The Swiss Club @ Sunday, November 26, 2017

Thursday 12th October

Located on Flinders Lane, East Side we've always had our eye on the Swiss Club, a frequent group buy deal.

One night we finally did it. Dinner at the Swiss Club. On a Thursday evening we were the only people there, it felt dated and we're all wondering been so overpriced how they're still alive.

Starting with Swiss Onion Soup $12*. (*Though we were charged 15pp - jas used my credit to pay, didn't check the bill, this is why I'm in charge.)

Fun story, I actually came back and she insisted it as $15 and sent someone to find the blackboard (it was a special) though I had taken a photo the night we dined, but she didn't believe me. This is why they're getting a low rating, service and price.

Fondue for Two  is $26 x 2 = $52

It's the cheese and comes with bread and pears. That's it. For 26pp we'd expected more than just bread, cheese and pears. This is probably the most expensive meal I have ever had (where it was not some charity event I was dragged to).

This is what you get for $52.

Service on the night was fine, service after from the matron was terrible. Not only was it overpriced for what you get, we were scammed/overcharged. Don't eat here, do your own fondue at home.
